On the cross , the Romans used to hasten the death of the crucified person , if it was before the Jewish sabbath (John 9.31 ) by cutting his legs using a rough tools, without any human respect , at the case of Jesus Christ , one of the soldiers thought that he can exempt himself from using the hard tools of cutting the legs, by using his spear, by planting it in Jesus' side , near his chest to test him if he was dead, he would not obliged to use the tools of cutting legs , because it demanded a great effort , at that time Christ was dead , his holy blood cells were clotting , and became as clots swimming in a water , so that blood with the water comes out of the wounded side , so it was a proof of his death , he exempted Christ from cutting his legs, and used his tools to cut the legs of the two other crucified persons .
The writers who lived at that period (1* J.Hastings " Encyclopedia of Religion and Ethics", Vol II , 1908-29 .) who described this process , they were assuring that The Cross , was the most horrible mean for killing at that time, and also the most bodily painful mean , but the Gospels did not describe those pains enough , or , his feeling of bodily pains , while he was on the cross .
According to Matthew 27.34 we found that Jesus Christ refused to drink the solute substances which they have prepared, to relief his pains,It was without any doubt, he aimed to be in his complete consciousness during this process, to the end, until his death to release , and reveal the purposes of His Father, it was the plane of redemption , He was in his complete consciousness during saying his famous seven words on the cross .
As a result of what we have said , we conclude these facts :-
(1) According to the Roman authorities traditions ,The Cross was used to crucify the slaves and the most dangerous criminals , who threated the public security , and as a mean of killing with defamation.
(2)According to the Jews , The Cross was just a mean of defamation , for a person who were have been killed ,by stoning him till death , then crucified him to curse him .
(3) According to the Gentiles ,The cross was a mean of offering one of the exiled person as a sacrifice ,after winning a war, to reveal their victory over their enemies , so The Cross was a Gentile's invention .
(4)The Cross was a mean of killing , to a person by letting him to die gradually, The Cross was a Moral and Spontaneous death , it was a death by hanging , because his neck muscles would not able to carry his head , so it hanged and closed the throat to make him die , as the ship wrecked or the strangled persons , also he dead by the Decline in the circulatory system ,or,by the blood clotting ,The Cross causing the death as a result of hard pains , it was a killing by using all the means of killing .
(5) The Cross was made by using the rough woods of the trees without smoothened .
(6)The Cross was out of the city where every person passed over it ,the Jewish Citizens while they were departing from their country to any other country , or while they were coming from other countries ,The Dismissed people like the leprosy persons , the Criminals , also where the tombs of the country which were included the dead bodies
(7) The Roman Authorities dealt with Christ by using the most hard punishment law , The list of the accuses according to the Roman Laws , were put over the head of Christ as a procedural lawful act but it was not sufficient to prove the reason of the death according to the Roman laws , so Pilate criticized it .
(8) If Jesus came before the revolution of the slaves ,which was before his birth, the revolution of "Spartacus " , then ,the Cross would not be the mean of his killing , because the Roman Synod put it as a law to protect the security of the Roman society , as a result of that revolution.
(9)Jesus Christ practiced the pains to the end , and he was in his complete conscious during it , his cross was in the type of "crux immissa" which was like the mark of plus in the mathematic (+) , and the Roman soldiers used the nail ( see the figure above ) to attach him to the Cross instead of wrapping him to glorify his pains .
Then what is our doctrine in the Cross ?
